總統馬英九任期倒數7天，13日前往「畢業旅行」，任內首度登上宜蘭頭城外海的龜山島，挑戰爬1706階的401高台。媒體好奇他即將卸任是否感傷，馬英九回答，不會感傷，「你看我滿臉笑容」。
馬英九受訪時表示，早上看到媒體報導，琉球區漁會總幹事蔡寶興之前去沖之鳥礁外面的公海捕魚7天滿載，現在4天就滿載，很開心，他對此感到欣慰。這總算向大家證明公海的漁場對台灣漁業界很有幫助，不應該放棄，也不應該容許非法占有公海的國家繼續非法下去。
這次是馬英九總統任內首次訪視龜山島，馬英九也說，之前規劃過3次，卻都因天候、海象無法成行，這次終於成功登島。
至於退休生活，馬英九說，還在規劃中，現在最重要是把辦公室與家搬好，目前沒有任何去中國訪問的計劃。
